English Language – Independent User Level (CEFR B1-B2)

This intensive language course covers communicative competences in English at the B1 and B2 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The course is designed to be integrated with other programs and courses offered at Sankt Ignatios and to enable students to develop and use their English in the context of studies, student life, wider civic engagement and professional life. Course materials, assignments, activities and methods are explicitly adapted to the needs of students within the context of folkbildning with its special focus on participatory and collaborative learning.  

By the end of the course, participants will have developed their ability to:

  • Assess, plan and actively guide their own language learning and development. 
  • Understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in school, work, leisure, etc.; further, to understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialisation. 
  • Deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken; interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. 
  • Produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest; subsequently, to produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
  • Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
