Introduction to Tewahedo Liturgy (50%) online (2023-2024)

Overview

This course introduces the Eucharistic Liturgy of the Ethiopian and Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church which has been regarded as the supreme act of communal worship through the ages. The course explores all the sections of the  liturgical services: preparatory service, pre-Anaphora (Serate Qedase), and  the Anaphora (Qedase). In addition, it examines the origins and sources of the Tewahdo Anaphoras and their developments, and the significance of Qedase. Moreover, the course discusses the theological message of the actions performed during the actual liturgy.  Key elements in the practice and leadership of worship will be explored.

 

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the origins and developments of the Tewahedo Anaphora
  2. Explore the theological knowledge about the actions that are performed during the Eucharistic Liturgy.
  3. Participate in the Eucharistic service.
  4. Analyze the contents of the anaphoras and use them for practical instruction.

In addition to the requirements stated in the course description, all students need to be at least 18 year old, be officially registered in Sweden and have a sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction.

Students are required to pay a service fee. The service fee for this course is SEK 400 per semester.
