Dr. Adriana Bara is a Senior Lecturer in Eastern Christian Studies, specialising in Orthodox theology, iconology, and iconography. She received a BAC in civil engineering and a BAC in theology in Romania, a master’s in theology from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, and a Ph.D. in theology from the University of Montreal.  Adriana has taught various courses in theology and religion-in-practice in the department of theology and the department of religions and cultures at Concordia University in Montreal. Since 2013 she has been the executive director of the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism.

As the head of the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism, Adriana has been actively involved in the official Canadian ecumenical dialogues. She has facilitated collaboration between churches in joint involvement in social action. She has also been involved in building positive relationships between various religious communities in Canada. In 2020 the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Quebec, in collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism and religious leaders, established the Table interreligious de concentration du Quebec. The Table’s role is to be a bridge between Quebec’s government and its faith communities after many decades of difficult relations between them. Adriana has been very involved in the work of the Table.

Between 2016-2017, Adriana was an international fellow of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) in Vienna, Austria, alongside twenty other scholars from religious education centers around the world involved in practical peace-building actions. Adriana’s involvement with KAICIID is rooted in her desire to represent Eastern Christianity in an international and intergovernmental organization that has as its goal the promotion of peace through dialogue.
