Deacon Training Program in the Tewahedo Tradition

Overview

This program provides the environment, structure and guidance necessary for the intellectual and personal formation of deacons who wish to serve the Orthodox Tewahedo Church. This three-year course is taught in Tigrinya or Amharic and does not require proficiency in Swedish or English. However, participants study this course in combination with Allmänkurs where Swedish and English will be used.

The program includes Ge’ez and Zema training for sacramental and liturgical services, and eight additional modules to be delivered over the course of two years. Year 1: Dogmatic Theology, Church History I, Bible Study, Patrology. Year 2: Church History II, Canon Law and Church Administration, Ecclesiology, Homiletics. Those who participate in the program will receive training and develop knowledge that will enable them to effectively carry out diaconal and liturgical service in the Church.

Requirements:

In addition to the requirements stated in the course description, all students need to be at least 18 year old, be officially registered in Sweden and have a sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction.

Fees: Tuition at Sankt Ignatios Folkhögskola is free for everyone who is registered (“folkbokförda”) in Sweden.

Service Fees at Sankt Ignatios Folkhögskola: 

Students are required to pay a service fee. The service fee for this course is SEK 400 per semester.
