Classical Syriac

This course is an introduction to classical Syriac, the language which the Syriac Church Fathers spoke and wrote in. Many important theological and spiritual works have been composed in Syriac.

The student will be introduced to the alphabet and to Syriac grammar and syntax and learn simple sentences for daily use. The student will also meet basic level Syriac texts and learn how to understand and translate them.

West Syriac pronunciation is used throughout the course, but students are allowed to use other pronunciations as well.

Requirements:

In addition to the requirements stated in the course description, all students need to be at least 18 year old, be officially registered in Sweden and have a sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction.

Fees: Tuition at Sankt Ignatios Folkhögskola is free for everyone who is a citizen of Sweden or another EU country or who have been granted permission to live in Sweden. Students must be registered as living in Sweden. 

Service Fees: Students are required to pay a service fee. The service fee for this course is SEK 600 per semester
