Icons – Art and Theology (2023-2024)

Icons are one of the most characteristic expressions of Eastern Christianity and Orthodox faith. This special program explores the history and theology of icons and their visual/aesthetic properties, both traditional and contemporary.

In addition to this, students will have the opportunity to learn about the development of image theories and stylistic properties of Christian art in the Eastern and Western traditions, and the relationship between the traditional forms of icon painting and some of the most iconic movements within modern and avant-garde art.

Requirements:

The applicant must have completed their upper secondary (high school) education. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate proficiency in English. The entry requirement for studies at the bachelor’s level in Sweden is equivalent to the English 6 course at Swedish upper secondary school. Students from outside Sweden, or students who cannot verify proficiency in English, are required to make an internationally recognized test, e. g. TOEFL IELTS or equivalent.
