The Liturgical Year of the Syriac Orthodox Church

This course deals principally with the Syriac Orthodox Church year, within the context of the development of the liturgical year in the early Church. We will read liturgical texts from the Church’s prayer books – such as Fanqitho, Kthobo d Ḥusoye and Mʿadʿdono – for the whole of the Church year in relation to the relevant scriptural readings. In addition, we will study secondary literature on the Bible to give a perspective on how the Bible should be read in relation to the liturgical year.
