Ukrainian-Swedish Forum: Building a Shared Horizon

Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine is a tragedy for Ukrainian society and confronts Europe with urgent questions about democracy, security, and moral responsibility.Ukraine’s post-war development will require not only physical reconstruction, but also the renewal of trust, values, and social cohesion.

The Forum is built on two equally important dimensions:

Brave Space – Intellectual and Societal Dialogue

A space for critical and respectful discussion on Ukraine’s future, Orthodoxy, democracy, reconciliation, and Europe’s security. It supports the development of ideas for post-war reconstruction and democratic renewal, including reflection on historical legacies and current conflicts, and encourages cooperation between Ukrainian and Swedish partners.

A space for lived experience, cultural expression, and community-building among Ukrainians affected by war and displacement. Through shared practices and gatherings, this space fosters trust, dignity, and belonging — foundations for integration, civic participation, and democratic life.

By holding together both safe and brave space, the Forum affirms that Ukraine’s post-war development depends as much on care, trust, and renewed social bonds as on critique, strategy, and political vision. Together, they shape a shared horizon for a secure, democratic, and inclusive Europe.
