Senior Professor of Eastern Christian Studies and Sankt Ignatios Board Member Prof Samuel Rubenson will give a Public Lecture in Addis Ababa

Born in Addis Ababa in 1955, Professor Samuel Rubenson is the son of an eminent scholar of Ethiopian 19th century history famous for his book ‘The Survival of Ethiopian Independence’ – Professor Sven Rubenson, and Britta Rubenson.
He studied theology, history, and Oriental languages at Lund University, where he earned his PhD, and later pursued advanced studies in Tübingen and Cairo. He was appointed Professor of Church History at Lund University in 1999 and became Senior Professor at University College Stockholm, Sankt Ignatios College in 2017.
Professor Rubenson’s scholarly work has focused on Early and Oriental Christianity, and he has carried out extensive research and fieldwork in Ethiopia and throughout the Middle East. In Ethiopia, he has made significant contributions to educational initiatives dedicated to the conservation of the medieval ecclesiastical heritage of Lasta.
Now retired, Professor Rubenson is the father of three children and grandfather of two. Honoring the legacy of his father and other Ethiopicists, he will deliver a lecture at the Institute of Ethiopian Studies and make donation of archival materials of Professor Sven Rubenson (Eight Boxes of precious archives).
