Byzantine Church Music

Church music comprises a great part of the services of the Orthodox Church. This course provides an introduction to the practical study of the Byzantine musical tradition. The main focus is learning how to sing the eight tones and other hymns within the Divine Liturgy in both the Slavonic and Greek Typikon. Applicants will be called to an interview to asses their musical ear.

Requirements:

In addition to the requirements stated in the course description, all students need to be at least 18 year old, be officially registered in Sweden and have a sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction.

Fees: Tuition at Sankt Ignatios Folkhögskola is free for everyone who is a citizen of Sweden or another EU country or who have been granted permission to live in Sweden. Students must be registered as living in Sweden. 

Service Fees: Students are required to pay a service fee. The service fee for this course is SEK 300 per semester
